Travel & Transport

With its rural landscapes of thick forest, rolling farmland, hard to cross rivers and limited public transport and active travel infrastructure, the Forest of Dean has many unique challenges to sustainable travel! FODCAP helps to coordinate work across the District to improve the sustainable travel options available to Forest of Dean residents, whether that’s better public transport, improved accessibility, car-share or active travel options.

An Active Travel Strategy for the District

Forest of Dean District Council: Transitioning To Electric Vehicles

Across the Forest, the council are working to cut transport emissions by embracing shared mobility and electrification. As well as improving public transport across the District, they are working with stakeholders to make the shift towards car sharing and electric vehicles.

Key initiatives include:

- A new EV charging network, delivered by the Forest of Dean District Council, with residents encouraged to use Zapmap to find up-to-date charger locations.

-A pioneering EV mobility car club pilot to launch soon. This is the first of its kind in the District, offering app-based hire of an electric car, with plans to expand to bikes and peer-to-peer sharing. This innovative scheme aims to reduce second car ownership and create the conditions for future EV infrastructure investment.

- A fully electric 9-seater Citroen E-Space van, introduced by Tidenham Parish Council, available free of charge for local community groups, aiming to reduce up to 7,000 car journeys annually.
