Thermal Camera Loan Scheme
Forest of Dean District Council has launched a Thermal Camera Loan Scheme to help homeowners assess the thermal efficiency of their homes in a bid to lower energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.
Heat Network
The Heat Network is an early-stage council initiative aimed at reshaping how communities think about heating - from individual boilers to shared, community-scale energy solutions like heat pumps. By pooling resources and reimagining ownership models, we can make low-carbon heating more affordable and accessible for everyone.
Case Studies
Businesses and communities have used local funding for the the retrofit of community buildings across the Forest. Utilising funding from the Rural England Prosperity Fund, family-run business, Maix Vending, installed 78 solar panels on the warehouse roof. Angus Buchanan Recreation Ground installed solar panels, EV charging, and battery storage. See further examples by clicking the button below.
Retrofit and Energy Champions
This council-led initiative calls upon local people to take the lead in making their communities more energy efficient. Having worked well on the Isle of Wight, the Forest is trialing this initiative by offering funding to partially support efforts at the parish level. The program encourages individuals such as former tradespeople with valuable skills and experience to guide others through the retrofit process.
